USB 3.0 not working

Just built my computer today. I installed all the motherboard drivers, including the USB 3.0 ones. I plug my western digital 3.0 hard drive in, and it doesn't detect it. It detects other 2.0 USB devices, but not my hard drive. Any ideas?

F_USB30 controller and R_USB30 controller are both enabled. All the other ports recognize the hard drive except the 2 blue 3.0 ports in back.

Anyone else have some solutions? The name of the driver I installed is Etron USB3.0 Host Controller.

My girlfriend had a ton of USB problems with a Gigabyte board using the Etron USB 3.0 driver supplied on the motherboard CD. I updated it to the most recent version on their site and the problems all went away.

All other 2.0 devices work in the 3.0 ports and my drive works in all other 2.0 ports on the board.

Updating did not work, still doesn't recognize it. It lights up and spins, but nothing on the computer. Just plugged it into another 2.0 slot, and it works.

The problem is caused by the junk quality chip from EtronTech, EJ168A USB 3.0 Host Controller.
Try updating the USB 3.0 drivers to 0.104 version (not 0.105), and see if that helps, but my personal opinion is that the Etron controller is a piece of crap.
For your information the Etron drivers could cause random BSOD even if you are not using them. See this thread:

See this review, quote:
This board is the first time I have seen the Etron EJ168A controller, and I have to say, it sucks. All throughout testing, I would have problems transferring files to and from the test system, and completing benchmarks. It would transfer fine for a while, but would randomly get “stuck” running at 1 MB/s or so. It wasn’t actually crashing, it was just lagging really bad. This happened across various USB 3.0 devices (although never came up when I tried a USB 2.0 device in the port). I have tried the latest drivers from the website, but to no avail.

So it could be that I have a bum board here, or it could be that the Etron controller just isn’t ready for real world use just yet. Things may improve with drivers in a while, but for now, it is not usable.

If your external HDD has the JMicron chip, try updating the firmware to version 255.31.3.41.22 from http://www.station-drivers.com/page/jmicron.htm.

Just RMA your motherboard and get a new one with the NEC USB 3.0 host controller.

Hmm, thanks for the info. I'll try going to .104 instead of .105. I'm not going to RMA my board and have to get a new windows 7 copy. It's a pain, but not worth that much. I'll try to contact gigabyte and see what they say.

Also, its not the drive. It works with my friend's 3.0 laptop.
