"One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it"

This is the bubble i get when i try and connect my brand new Logitech extreme 3d pro Joystick.

My OS is XP home edition. I have downloaded three different drivers and still no joy. I have tried all my usb points and i get the same message. I have turned off my computer and disconnected the power for 20 min and no joy. I have rebooted a number of times and no joy. I have run windows update and no joy. I am out of answers. PLEASE HELP me. Have i bought a bad joystick or am I overlooking a simple setting i need to tweak.

In advance thank you

am pretty sure the gamepad is USB2 and your pc is usb1 but still it should work, you can try microsoft.com for an update for windows or if you have your motherboard disc most mobo's have a setup for a USB patch (mine does), have you tried install that ?

Yeah i tried microsoft update. No good. I have no idea what i am looking for as far as a setup for a USB patch. never heard of it.

By the way my mother board is an M2N 1394 series ASUS Nvidia Nforce. Don't know if this helps

does it use a plug that needs to be plugged in?

i had a similar problem with my g25 racing wheel the last time i used it.
everything was working except the x axis, which wasn't even being detected or registering for anything at all. wasn't until after i filled out a support ticket and was looking at spare parts for it (thinking a sensor was bad) that i realized i didn't even have the power adapter connected to it :P

it was more then a month since i had last used it and forgotten all about plugging it in :P

besides that, do you have a different computer you could test it on?
if it doesn't work on any other computer either, then maybe its just defective.
if it works on other PCs then at least you know the joystick is good.
