USB expansion questions

I've just built a system with mobo ASUS P8Z68-V-LX that currently has 2 x USB3.0 and 4 x USB2.0 on the rear panel and 2x USB2.0 on the front panel and I have 6 spare USB2.0s on the mobo available.

As far as I can tell from "online window shopping" the simplest option to have more USB2.0s is to get a PCI card with 4 external and 1 internal USB port and this makes me wonder how the 4+1 setup works.

Does the one internal port connect to my only one of my mobo USB headers and supply the 4 external or is there seperate wiring from the PCI card that attaches to my mobo for each port?

And is there anything special I need to shop for or avoid when buying a USB expansion card such as win7 support or other specs?
