USB HDD help???

I have a Hard disk drive (80gb) enclosed in a case with a USB adaptor, and when I hook it up to my laptop with windows xp, it automatically recognizes the HDD as a storage device, but on my laptop with windows 2000 professional, it recognizes the "USB mass storage device" but the HDD does not show up in any folders or on the drop down address bar. How do I get my computer with win 2000 to let me view the hard drive so I can store files and such on it??? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
 
Did the case come with drivers for win2k?
Do a windows update and open device manager then select 'update drivers' and let it search the net.
