USB Hub Question

I was lookin to buy this USB hub...I was wonderin if i had like 3 things plugged into it, if they would all work at the same time.....say like having something priniting and havin an ipod plugged in and havin a mouse plugged in.....
this will work, but bandwidth may be an issue.

im also wonderin about the power ussage on this...will have enough energy to power everything plugged into it???

thanks...
this all depends on what the power requirements for the devices are. something that has it's own power, like a printer. will not take much power from the usb port. something that does not have it's own power will take a toll on the hub.

you should have no problems with a printer and mouse, even if you put the ipod in aswell, it probably wouldnt be that bad, cos the ipod runs off battery and is only used momentarily for data transfer, then it is disconnected, so.......

For those things it is fine, but both bandwidth and power can be an issue with other devices. Don't try running 4 devices that don't have external power off one. To check the power required by a device, go to Device Manager -> Universal Serial Bus Controllers -> USB root hub (may be more than one) -> Power, and it will tell you what current is required by each device connected to it. My mouse, for example, requires 98mA of power. Each port can provide 500mA of power.

ooooh, useless information that i can use to sound smart, woo

Not so useless if you want to check whether you can power all 4 devices!

Im not sure about that hub but my hub came with a plug to give it more power (if it is needed).

The better, more expensive ones do, but cheaper ones usually don't.
