Usb issues.

Hello.

My PC running XP seems to have a serious problem with all USB devices. Best example, my iPod. I plug it in with a perfect good USB cable and it reads it right away, but seconds after it disapears. It will then continue to do this many many times and very fast. It seems as if it can't hold a USB device for more than one minute!

Another example, I plugged in a USB flash drive to move some files over and it reads it perfectly for about 45 seconds. It will then undetect it and will re open as if it was ejected and put back in again.

ANOTHER example is with a USB external HD. I was trying to back up my iTunes music onto the HD. There is over 300 gigs left so space is not an issue, but it doesn't even read the external hd.

What is going on here?

Tried different USB Ports???

Where on the USB Ports??? Motherboard, Hub or on / in the case???

That worked for the flash drive, but now when I plug in my external HD all that comes up ius safely remove hardware

it isnt being read in my computer.

In a USB port on the motherboard???

So, your saying, it won't come up under my computer?????

Yeah like, it makes the noise that it's plugged in and "safely remove hardware" comes up and I can find the storage device there.. but not on my computer where I can use it for back up.
And I am using the port that is from my mother board.
