I plug in normal things into my usb like IPOD, camera, etc. the "safely remove hardware" icon on the bottom detects whatever it is..but windows does not..usually a window pops up saying "open up to view files, play files, etc." but now that doesnt pop up..so i go into "my computer" to see if i can do it manually and its not even in there!..any help PLEASE!

That sounds like either the device driver got knocked out or the usb controller was somehow disabled. Right click on the MyComputer icon if shown on the desktop or go into System through the Control Panel and look for any yellow exclamation marks next to the IPod or "other devices" listing. If one is found right click on that to choose the update driver option. From there you can use the autoupdate or manually choose method to restore it.

tried to reinstall usb drives..still doesnt work..i have all the updated drives,sp2, everything im not sure why it won't work..i mean i can charge my ipod and everything but i cant use it ..safely remove hardware detects it..but windows won't..help please!!

Have you tried your IPod on a different usb port? That would be the next step if the one you are generally using went bad. Are you using front or pci slot mounted or the rear ports mounted to the board itself?
