How can i figure out if i have a 1.1 USB Drive or a 2.0USB? Our computer is 4years old and i dont know what we have?

Thanks

well, dunno wat kind of comp you have but on mine it says USB 2.0 right by it, look and it might say somethin?

What is your mobo brand? Also try going to the control panel > system > device manager and reading what the usb says it may say what kind it is it shoudl indicate at least wtih a number..

Re::

I think ATEC is the motherboard manu.
Computer:
Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4CPU 1.60GHz
1.63GHz 254MB of Ram

I looked in the device manager... Doesnt saying anything..

With those specs, I'd guess it's not USB2.0, but it's hard to say. One easy way to tell, find some USB2.0 device and plug it in. Practically every USB2.0 device is backwards compatable, it'll just run at slower speeds. Windows will give you an error about how the device could run faster on a different USB hub.

Yeah, I couldn't find anything on an Atec manufacturer, but I don't remember a single board in the Northwood era that had USB 2.0, so my guess is 1.1.

Hey.. Ok.. Thanks! So i read on a external hard can be backwards compat. with a USB 1.1.. So im guessing that would work on my computer, Just at slower speeds.. Since im writing.. Does anyone kno where i can get a good brand of an external hard drive About 100-300GB of Memory? and not to costly. THANKS!!
