Usb Ports

This is a real beginners question. I was looking at motherboards for a desktop and noticed that the usb connectors are built on the motherboards. I then was looking at cases and also noticed that they show the usb ports in the picture of a bare case. I’m a little confused.

My second question is on a laptop are the usb connectors part of your motherboard as well?

Most motherboards have the option of using front USB and front audio jacks. The USB ports on the front of the case are built into the case and have a connection that plugs into the motherboard.

As for a laptop, I would guess that the USB ports are part of the motherboard. I don't see how there would be much room for a card.
