Hi guys, I am having a problem with my Dell Dimension 4550. Whenever I plug in my usb flash drive, the computer does not recognize it. It goes straight to "Found new hardware" and it's trying to install the software??!

What's going on with this? Is there some program I need to download so I can view the files on my flash drive? Thanks in advance.

there shouldnt be unless your flash drive came with a driver cd for some reason and i dont think they do just when you plug it in go to start my computer and click on your flash drive if its there if its not then i dont know mabye you need to upgrade to usb 2?

Is there "U3 software" installed on the flash drive? If so, you can remove it and the flash drive will still work.

I removed the U3 software off my flash drive because it wasn't compatible with my Linux operating system.

Are you connected to internet? If not then thats your problem! The internet is needed so windows can automatically download the drivers for it. Once you have internet then plug in the usb flash drive and just sit there until the drivers are successfully installed. It should not take more than a minute.
