USB Problem

I have an HP Omnibook 6000. I just got MS streets and trips 2008 with the gps receiver. I installed the software on my laptop, plugged the usb gps receiver in, and ms streets and trips cant find it. I have unplugged it several times with the same results. I tried putting it in different ports on my hub. No luck. Then I installed the software on my desktop, and it works fine. Any ideas?

did you install the driver for the unit on your laptop???
Are they different Operating systems???

The driver came built into the software. So I am assuming that it got installed with the rest of the software. Both pc's are running xp. Im going to try to reinstall the software again and try it then.

the reciever probably isn't recongnized b/c it's plugged into a usb hub. try plugging it in to one the ports DIRECTLY connected to the lappy, i.e. a built-in one.

Im going to try to just reinstall the usb driver for the gps. I tried connecting the gps directly to the laptop, but it still doesn't see it. Another thing might be the prob. I have xp on my laptop but its a chopped up version. Its called tiny xp. Its really small, loads, and shuts down very quickly. Maybe it doesn't have the necessary software?? This is my car pc. I have only one built in ups. I need the hub because my touch screen and auto power on module both need a usb connection. Now that I have the gps, that needs one too. I'll try a few things and come back.

Ok, I got it working. For some reason, the usb driver for S&T 2008 didn't install automatically. I installed them and it works fine. Thanks.
