USB problems

So the other day I was trying to sync my iPhone to my computer and the USB ports just shut off and turn back on a couple times. (You can hear the sound when something is plugged in and unplugged) Then I tried updating a game and realized it did the same thing. I have a USB wifi adapter. It seems that when heavy data is going through the usb ports they just quit working. Do I need a new motherboard or what? I checked device manager for updates and nothing came up. I tried googling as well but I suppose my issue is too complex for google to find what I'm looking for. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Are you using the front usb ports or the ones on the back of the motherboard? You most likely have a short in the connector if you are using the front ones.

It is plugged into the front. I can try and switch it to the back and see what happens real quick.

Moving it didn't fix the issue. I tried syncing my phone and downloading the update at the same time and it is like its unplugged and plugged back in real quick.

Absolutely garbage.

Try using a known good power supply. Most likely you aren't getting the required voltage to the usb's.

Try corsair cx430 unit, very dependable.

Thank you so much. I will look into it. Seems about right to me. This pre-built pc is known to have a bad psu.
