USB Trouble

This morning my computer stopped working when I arrived at the XP login screen. The USB devices (mouse, keyboard etc.) stop working at that point (lights off and everything) (note my computer has no PS/2 connections). It comes up with an error message stating

winlogin.exe: shell32.dll not found, please reinstall application.

Or something to that effect. I used the recovery console to fix shell32.dll and now I don't get an error message when the windows login screen appears on startup.

However, as soon as my computer gets to the windows login screen on startup now all the lights on my keyboard and mouse (usb) turn off, meaning i cannot login to my user account.

Anyway I can fix this without having to repair my whole windows installation?

there is a chance that when your had the screwed up winlogon file that it some how broked your usb driver. Try downloading and installing the latest usb driver fro your motherboard.
