USB will not show after xp pro upgrade

Heres my problem I just upgraded from XP home to pro sp2. And since then my flashdrives or ipod cannot be seen when plugged in.

I hear the chime, and see the bubble confirming them, but under my computer nothing. All my hardware is up to date and pretty much new.

I have been searching around for a while and cannot find a straight forward answer.

I believe I have all my drivers up to date and I even have the option of "Safely Removing them", but I cannot copy anything to it or even look at the data on it.

What do you guys suggest?

First, why did you upgrade from Home? That was completely unnecessary. I strongly suspect piracy.

Second, to answer your question, you go into the Drive Management snap in of your Computer Management and you assign those devices a drive letter. Then you'll be able to see them.

The reason for the upgrade was because it was recommended for a few classes this next semester. No piracy here.

Ok so Im a little unsure on what you have said. Where will I find this option to assign the device a letter? What should that letter be?

I have one hd (C), one opt. drive(D), 2 usb ports on the case and 4 on the mobo. It used to auto. assign the letter when I pluged it in, before the upgrade.

So what do you think? Am I a newb or what:rolleyes:

Yup, you're definitely a newb.. Whatever the hell a newb is.

Just assign them a letter that hasn't already been assigned. If left to do it on it's own it might be trying to assign one that already exists and that's why you can't see it. I had to do that with my flash drive, wherever I happened to put that.

OK I assigned letters to the devices. The ipod showed up in itunes, and nothing else. Nothing under My Computer showing the drives. I removed them and plugged them back in and I am back to where I started. I am not sure what to do at this point. When xp home was running all I had to do was throw the usb flash drive into any port copy and go. Now I cannot even access them.

I am puzzled.

I appreciate the help.
