USB will work, PS2 wont

What would cause a PS2 mouse & keyboard to stop working, when it had been working OK?

In the BIOS the PS2 mouse was on AUTO, I changed it to ENABLE but still didn't work.

USB works fine with mouse & keyboard.

Spec: HP Pavilion a309.uk, 256mb RAM, 40GB HDD, WinXP Home SP1

Any help would be greatly appreciated

nice avatar!

neway....

1. u sure ur plugging the mouse into the mouse ps2 and the k.board into the k.board ps2?

2. what were u doing when they stopped working? maybe if u havent already, try unplugging them and plugging them back in.

3. double check those settings in bios. sometimes ppl leave bios and dont save the settings. post back.

Thanx Johnny, I am plugging the keyboard and mouse into the right ports, I've tried unplugging them and using a different keyboard and mouse. Still not working, though the lights of the keyboard do come on during boot and 1 light stays on. (The light above "1")

And the PS2 mouse is enabled in the BIOS

Any idea what could be the problem Johnny? A USB keyboard and mouse works fine, just no PS2...

use the comp to check for new hardware through the control panel and see if u can find the keyboard and mouse and install them from there. u r using xp right?

*****EDIT: also in the control panel, go under the mouse and other hardware, and look under the mouse and keyboard tabs and see if u have the right mouse selected. same for the keyboard. see if thast helps.
