Use without USB key?

Im experimenting with Cubase SE software, but it requires that you leave the USB key plugged in while running it. This is fine except I need that extra USB spot for plugging in additional components. Is there a way to make the program operate without using the USB key?

Well, just get a small one at a computer fair, I picked one up at digital life for 5 bucks, it's very small. Smaller then my camera. So small that the wire is too short, had to use a USB Extention cord :)

Yes but when your using audio equipment, having something between your interface and the computer increases latency which is bad. I just need to know if there is a way to bypass the USB key.

I see that they make 'dongle emulators' but I sort of question the legality of such a program. Can anyone verify if it would be safe to use something like that or not?

Dongle is different. Many pro hardwares require it to be plugged in. this is so you can not use the software and give it to somebody else. (they need the dongle).
Emulator is interesting though but because of policy i would be expected to say:
don't discuss here.
interesting..........emulator
this is really a hardware emulator.
