"Used read buffer" problem

I think ive already asked this before.. but here it goes again.
I'm using Nero and trying to copy from dvd disc to dvd disc. Only using one dvd drive.
When it's 'Creating image', the used read buffer bar is at 0%, rarely jumping to 50% then dropping back down to 0% again. Near the bottom, it says 'Writing at xxx KB/s', this speed is usually around 10KB/s, with programs all closed, even firewall, and small programs. this creating image process takes me 15 minutes. i dont think i used to have this problem when i first got the dvd burner.. but its been like this for a while. my specs are below.
oh yeah, i think in my last thread they suggested to enable the dma for the ide channels. thats all done.
and lastly..the cable for my dvd burner is a 40 pin, not an 80 pin, this could probably be the problem... but i was thinking there would be other solutions..
thanks, =] , sorry if i havent been clear enough.

If you have your DVD drive on the same IDE cable as where you're putting your image, you'll have troubles. For instance, if your HD where your image is is your Secondary Master, and your DVD burner is Secondary Slave, that's a no-no. You're slowing things way down by making the data come off the HD, get stored in RAM, and then sent back down the cable to the burner.

Your image should be saved to a HD not on the same channel as your burner. Make sure you're using the latest chipset drivers. And all your cables should be 80-wire.

Tom

EDIT: wires, not pins. 40 pin, 80 wires, as StrangleHold says.

Its a 80 wire, 40 pin cable, could be, with a 40 wire I think your limit is UDMA 2 or 3. It has 40 extra ground wires

Oh, thanks guys =] yeah, guess i might have to replace my cables then. is there any other solutions to my problem? i just tried creating the image on another hdd which was on another ide port. wasnt much difference. the buffer was still at 0% most of the time. if not.. it MUST be my cables.. hopefully =\
