Using a 28" LCD TV as a monitor via monitor out?

I have a 28" LCD 1080i / 720p TV I would like to use as a monitor. I have the ATI X1900XT GPU. Now the card has a component video output for TV's however the max resolution it will put out is 1`024 x 768 if I remember right (either that or 600 x 800). Well anyway that’s too crapy of a resolution. So I was thinking of getting a DVI to HDMI converter plug and use the monitor output via HDMI to my TV to I can use a larger resolution. However if I do that will I damage my TV or GPU? Also will the TV display a larger resolution? I know some TV's wont display anything larger then that.

No, it will not damage your TV or GPU. Yes, you should be will to get the resolutions that your TV supports.

Well what about output frequency? I know if I don’t choose the right output frequency on my GPU I will damage the TV. I assume it runs on 60 Hz. for most TV's do. However how can I check? Also why wont the TV output on the card let me go beyond 1024 x 768?

*shrugs* I run 1920 x 1080 resolution from my GPU in sig to a 42" lcd tv. I think it refreshes at 60 hz. I think you're worried too much.

LCD's don't run at frequencies. It's basically all converted and then displayed. Worst case, it'd probably give you an error on the screen.
