Using a phone with Skype?

Hey, is it possible to use an old modem, plug a phone into that, and use it with skype? Is there anything like that or similar to that?
Also, can i make a mic with an old phone? Thanks.

No you cannot use a modem and telephone for skype it is not a VOIP it is like a messenger with voice and you could make a mic with an old phone if you had all the right parts.

What are you talking about? Skype is a type of VOIP software.

But you would need an external piece of hardware to hook up a traditional phone to it, like vonage has a certain VOIP modem that you can hook up a phone to.

You cannot hook up a phone with Skype, yes Skype is a type of VOIP but it is more closely related to yahoo voice, you cannot recieve incomming phone calls and you cannot use external hardware like a modem for this service, so in a nutshell it is not true VOIP like vonage where you get a phone number where people can call you.

Ever heard of SkypeIN? You pay a yearly fee, and you Skype gives you a phone number where people can call you.

I have a background in soldering, but very limited skills are needed for this. It involves soldering a headphone into the intercom of the phone and plugging the phone into the computer using the headphone jack.
