in an older computer of mine we want to set it up in the lounge room for movies an mabey some games.
I just want to know how clear it will be the 7300GS thats on my rig in my sig is what will be going in it using the HD plugs on the vid card an connecting to our 50
inch plasma will it be clear an readable or will it be blurry like S-Video? the computer is a Athlon XP 2400 2.0GHz
512M ram hopfuly 1G soon
7300GS

Probably won't support it. You would need a much newer model seeing the HD capability to support the high resolution as well as seeing the HD ports. A new DX10 card would see things like a HDTV Component (YPrPb) output (adapter) like the MSI Radeon HD 2600XT card run here.

The ATI information on their version can be looked over at http://ati.amd.com/products/radeonhd2600/radeonhd2600xt/specs.html

The same would apply to the mid to high range NVidia 8000 series cards. For the new large screen plasma tvs the older model there simply lacks the option.

it came with one there the plugs i am planing on using (YPrPb)

The problem however would be the requirement for the higher screen resolution seen on a 50" tv. You should look over the specifications on that model card to see the highest supported and what is required for the tv itself.

ok ill do it a bit later on the T.V does not come in for another week or so but if it all check out good as in the requirements do u think it will be clear

I won't be sure to say anything at this point not having one onhand. I have the feeling that the older card lacks what will be needed however. That wasn't a higher end model in the 7000 series like a 7900 series model would be.

ok im thinking if it does not work out on that card i will spend $100 AUS
these are the cards i am looking at.
512M 7600GS
512M X1650Pro i would prefer the 7600GS as it is $109 an the X1650Pro is $125
do u think any of these to will do it

Before spending any money review the information you can on the tv. Do you have the brand and model number for the tv itself? Usually some information will be available to look over. Then you simply go from there when selecting a card that will work.

err, the 7300's go up to 2048x1536, so a HD tv really shouldnt be a problem.

anyways, yes, the picture quality should be a LOT better than S-Video, since Component is basicly analog hdmi (wich is HD-tv resolutions 1080i if i remember right) while S-video is for normal tv's still (wich is below 480i)

edit: ofcourse, it does depend on what you're going to do with it ofcourse, gaming on that resolution ofcourse might be a problem for the card itself, since it isnt the best gpu around :)

and about compartibillity, if that card has a Component output, you can connect it to the tv (wich has a component input) without a problem. I've never heard of any different standards of component cables/connections, so it should be compartible.

(My 3870 cam with a DVI-> HDMI adapter, maybe that would be an option too? :) )

Anything is better then S-Video for sure. But this will be for a 50" Plasms rather then the early HD tvs there. That and of gaming would certainly be some concern. When the tv is in and connected you'll then know fast enough if a better card will be needed.

(Archangel how's that front array of plastic fins doing now since you corrected the wobble on the AeroCool case there?)

the res on the T.V is 1920 x i cant rember but cant i lower it if i want to play games on it?
A better Vid card will come adventively.
the 7300GS will play any game i have played on it just newer games like Crisis i have to play on low/med 800x600

The game settings will obviously be different then the desktop. The 19" widescreen here is set to 1440x900 while some old games see 1152x862 as the highest wide screen setting or 1280x1024 for the standard view type. The higher display resolution for the desktop simply returns as you know once the game is ended.

You simply have to see how that will work once you have the tv there in order to see a likely need to upgrade if it doesn't for some reason. Get used to the different look when gaming however! :P
