Using HijackThis Logs

I don't see how you can learn from getting the job done by an analyzer...:D

I quite agree :)

For someone like me learning, it is the click points that explain the process behind the safe to nasty score. It is the information given that interests me, exactly the same as Googling the file.

Relying on an analyser is not the answer but reading the analyser result and questioning it is the learning part. Surely any information, however you get it must help, do you agree :)

That analizer gives Nasty just because of "fuzzy Algorithm" on my aol software.... I won't rely on that....

the way I do it is to google anything I don't recognize and find out whether it's legitimate or not. I always get rid of anything from yahoo, Aol and msn, any messengers, extra toolbars, BHOs I didn't install myself and don't recognize, and all system hooks. Whenever I install anything except security software, I uncheck the run at startup box.

The problem with online analyzers is that some folk promote them as a malware removal guides. The problem is, they don't tell you "how" to remove malware. Todays malware is usually far too sophisticated for HijackThis to handle alone. As such, simply removing entries from a HijackThis log seldom removes the malware.
