Using laptop like device as input/output for desktop

I would like to know if any device has been developed or would be easy to 'do it yourself' that allows you to use your desktop pc while retaining the experience of using a laptop. Essentially, a laptop like device with only the keyboard and monitor, and necessary cables to plug in to your desktop and for power.

I injured my back in an accident and sitting up for any extended period of time gets extremely uncomfortable, so I tend to go towards my laptop for work/gaming/etc. since I find it a lot more comfortable. The problem with my laptop is that it isn't nearly as powerful as my desktop, and it gets extremely hot. I'd like to be able to combine the benefits of both my desktop and laptop somehow.

I didn't think this was such a ridiculous idea but I haven't been able to find any information about it. I suppose I could buy a 15inch monitor and a small keyboard and try to rig it together to mimic a laptop, but if something more refined is available I'd prefer that.

Almost all modern laptops support external monitors, keyboards, and mice. Other than that, if you don't need a laptop you could just build or buy a desktop to spec of how it fits your needs.

I am not quite sure what you are asking?

I basically want to have the output for my desktop on a laptop style monitor, and the input for it being a keyboard attached to that monitor in a laptop style. I know most laptops don't support video input, so it doesn't actually have to be a functioning laptop, just something with the look and feel of a laptop that I can use with my desktop.

Why not get a good monitor and then a wireless keyboard and mouse and set it up exactly how you want it?

Because unless I hinge the keyboard and monitor together somehow, it wouldn't really accomplish what I'm looking for. I'm not really sure how I would hinge the two together either.
