using my tv as a monitor??

i plugged it in to an ibm thinkcenter i had before using the pc vga plug in on the tv and it worked just fine.. i since got a new computer and now the tv goes black and keeps telling me i need to change my pc screen resolution.. but ive tried them all and they dont work. my computer now is also an ibm. its a lenovo with a 1.89ghz dual core processor.. the tv is a 47" Sanyo.. i also tried to change the FPS from 60 to 75 and 85.. none work.. can anyone help??
 
have you tried either 1280x960/768, those should work on anything just about, does the tv and comp have any hdmi or dvi slots? if so try one of those.
 
ive tried 1280x960 and 768.. and the last comp i tried to hook it up to had a hd video card.. was using a vga plug in but even set on 1920x1080 and didnt work.. 1024x768 is what the the computer i did get it to work on was set on but it dont work from any other comp..
 
and i'm guessing this computer doesn't have any other video-outs, as in dvi or hdmi most likely, also s-video too
