Using Sata 6.0 Gb/s on 3.0 Gb/s port

The thing is we haven't hit actually SATA 2 speeds yet, hardware limited. I would buy it so you have new technology anyway so that when you upgrade your motherboard to SATA 3, you already have a SATA 3 drive.

It will work since SATA 6.0 Gb/s drives/ports are backwards compatible with SATA 3.0 Gb/s drives/ports. As johnb35 pointed out, it is a moot point since no mechanical drive can saturate a SATA 3.0 Gb/s channel so a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port/drive is pointless. If you want to approach SATA 6.0 Gb/s speeds you need an SSD.
