Using Unsupported CPUs

Hello, I have a Intel D850EMV2 motherboard. For those who are unfamiliar with it, it is a socket 478 designed for the Northwood Pentium 4 Processor. My model also has HT and max FSB of 533. Processors top out at 3.06GHz. Currently I have a 2.0 Pentium 4, 1 gig Rdram PC1066, 512 Ati Card. My main concerns are that I do not want to buy a new motherboard because I am afraid/certain that the Rdram will not work and the new Motherboards do not have AGP slots. So I was looking at a cheap 50-70 dollar shot in the arm for my computer. I am looking at a Celeron D because I believe they are nice CPUs for the price and because they offer great performance for my 533 FSB machine. Naturally my board only supports the Northwood core Pentium 4s. Could I put a CeleronD, P4 Mobile, or Prescott into my motherboard. Intel is of little help. Thanks.

It wasn't too hard for me to find what processors are supported by that board.... :)

Only P4 processors are supported in that board, no celerons.

If I were you, I would invest in a new system. That Rdram memory is too expensive. If you were to upgrade to a core 2 duo with ddr2 memory and pci express video slot, then there would be no need for you to ever upgrade again. (at least not for another 10 years or so if you don't use your computer for a lot of stuff).

I know what Intel says I can put into it, but my question is whta if I put something else in thats not a northwood P4.

it won't work!!!!!!! The bios won't recognize the cpu and it probably won't even boot up.

Also, Celeron Ds are about as bad as they get. I seriously wonder if you are joking about them being good for the money.

Yeah... Celerons are bad enough... get a Core 2 Duo or P4 3Ghz at least =)

Well they have nice numbers compared to tech from 4 years ago ;) I just bought a 3.06 HT Pentium 4 for 78 dollars. That should keep me happy for another two years or so before I want to update. I still remember socket 423 so I am skeptical about anything new from intel. And Rdram is the shizz dizz. What other company would charge over 150 dollars for a gig of ram? Sarcasm intended.

lol, I still have those 486 socket 3 motherboards.. .as for the 423, I still hava 1.4 GHz OC'd one... old but its my main cmoputer. 450MB ram.. ect =) just love that one! and the HDD is voer 10years old
