Using Xubuntu, permission denied in terminal?

i recently i nstall xubuntu on an old pc and i was toying around with swapboost(similar to readyboost in windows) and i got to the command
Sudo mkswap dev/sdb1 (dev etcc is title of usb drive).. i get permission denied
im the onlyh user on the computer.. how do i get permission?
