V2000 compaq display not working help!!

I have a compaq V2000 laptop and the backlit display stopped working, if I hold a light to it I can see the computer itself is working fine, but the backlighting wont come on, does anyone know what could be causing this? I've checked in the power settings in windows, and the bios and they both are set to have it come on like normal. I know the battery isnt low or anything b/c I have it plugged in like 90% of the time, and it was working fine just a few hours before. Went out with some friends and bam it didnt work could overheating be an issue? Any help would be appreciated
