Variation in CPU temps?

I've installed two CPU temp monitoring programs... TAT and SpeedFan.

They both seem to work like they should, but they don't agree either.

Comp, specs are in the sig... so, according to TAT, right now my CPU 0 is at 50c, CPU 1 is at 49c.

I'm not sure how to read Speedfan, but these are the temps that are registering:
HD0- 40C
Temp1- 53c
Core 0- 37c
Core 1- 36c
Could someone explain what each of those values are?

So... if I'm reading this correctly, am I right in that TAT is telling me my CPU temp is right at 50c and Speefan is telling me it's at 40c ?

Also, with just doing casual things like browsing the internet, TAT shows that my CPU temps vary dramatically over the course of just a few seconds, at one point it will be telling me 47c, the next it will be at 55c (the fan never comes on during that point either). Is that normal?

Sorry for all the questions, but I appreciate the help.

do you have a 2 core CPU? such as Dual Core? yoyur temps are fine mine are a little lower but i have two fans running. my CPU is 35 degrees c and my mobo is 43 dgrees C. i think your fine.

Go to your bios, typically the temps can be found there and are more accurate than typical software apps. Plus, speedfan isn't exactly the most reliable program out there. Most everyone here recommends PC Wizard over Speedfan now-of-days...
