Hi computerforum, when i boot up my computer after it has gone past the MOBO bios screen (where it shows the logo of the manufacturer of the MOBO) and then the following comes up "verifying DMI pool data...." and it just stays like that. After following the instructions from this website: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000474.htm,
I think the problem is corrupt boot files on the computer, on the website above it says boot from a bootable floppy but i didnt make one. I would just do a complete reinstall of XP but i have some really important documents which i really need, i've tried taking the HDD out of the comp and putting into my own; what happens is the HDD installs OK but then when i go to my computer its not there. I know it is on the computer because it is visible in device manager and it shows the HDD's status as operational.

Here are the specs of the computer i'm talking about:
AMD Sempron 3300+
Abit KU8
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
RAM: 512mb Geil (PC 3200)
80gb seagate HDD SATA
cheap PSU case combi (colors IT)

I really need someone's help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks salman.

I had this problem too..

It ended up being a Faulty hard drive, even tho i took it out of a working computer 2 days earlier...

Nothing would fix it, Reformat, repair, i couldn get anything.

The wierd thing is, the hard drive would work as a storage drive, just not as a Boot Drive.

The problem is a pain i know. but its definitly your hard drive.

Just try the things people said in my post when i posted on here AGES ago.

Try this one first

then try this one 2nd

Thanks for your fast reply K3rupt, I'm gonna try em now, I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again, salman.

I've tried them all but for the last one cos i dont think it applies for dual cores, thanks for your help. All i want to do is to be able to back up the data off the HDD isn't there anything else i can do. Is there no way i can use another persons bootable floppy or just anything to get my info back?!

try making a bootable disk with all the clean system files from another computer. make sure tht the other computer frm whr u are makin the bootup disk is clean(virus free).
and use it on ur current computer,

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

ghost - Thanks for the software recommendation, but that NTFS reader does look a bit scary - so i think I'll try that as the option after making a bootable disk from another computer.

adarsh - Thanks for your reply, this might sound a bit noobish but how would i go about creating a bootable disk?

Thanks a lot to everyone for helping.

heya salman,
do u hav a spare pc? if not, go to ur friends place and use his pc to create the system disk. a system disk is a floppy which contains all *CLEAN* boot up files. to ensure tht u hav a clean boot up(virus free/uncompromised), make sure tht u make this system disk frm a clean computer.

To make the system disk(Bootup disk)

1) Insert a floppy
2) Go to My computers
3) Right click on Floppy Drive and select "Format".
4) In the dialog box that appears, select "Create startup disk"
5) Click format.

Once the disk is ready use it on ur pc to initiate a clean bootup... i think it will enable u to first get into ur pc

Thanks a lot for all the fast replies adarsh you've been a great help. I'll be able to use the computer in my sig to to create the system disk. I'll have to go into town tomorrow and buy some floppy disks and a floppy drive I nevr bothered to buy one for the system in my sig.

Thanks a lot.
