I have verizon DSL and it came with a non wireless crappy modem and I was wondering if I could use a gt704wg modem/router. I've been trying all day and it doesn't want to connect to the internet it powers on all the lights that are supposed to come on are on but the internet one.... do I need the install cd? I'm trying to get wireless to my other computer and so that I can use it for my wii, psp, etc. Help please.

modem/router? or just router. If its just a router then it will work fine unless it doesnt work. Try to unplug both and plug both back in and hit the reset button on the router.

nah it's the combo thing from verizon I think I just need the install cd to configure it and what not.... the person I bought it from failed to add it so I have to pick it up tommorow....=/

You won't be able to receive internet until you register the modem with your Dsl company. Call them to figure out how.

Some Verizon DSL you have to register the mac address, on the connection device, this authenticates you on their network...just like cable.
Most of the Verizon DSL they use your user name ( VZExxxx) and a password.
Which is more likely, and what they have done is plugged the vze +pw into your router so you are always connected when ever you turn on your pc, as opposed to using a "dialer" ( it is a term, I know this is DSL) on your desktop that has you VZE and PW plugged in ready to authenticate you.
what model is the router you are trying to use...do you have regular dsl or fios...i also find it hard to beleive that the router they gave you does not have wireless, you are not saying that b/c you do not see an antena are you...also include the model number of the verizon supplied router

It was just vista....works on my xp home...=/ kinda sucks because this is my crappy computer and i don't want to install xp on the other one because of dx10 and the fact that vista looks so much better than xp imo....

What I have to do to swap out modems (i have verizon also) is make sure I release the ip address from the old modem before connecting the new one. You have to go into the settings on the old router and find where it says disconnect or release. Your internet light should go out if you've done it properly. Then when you connect the new modem it will get an ip address. Your IP (given by verizon) is typically bound to a certain mac address. By releasing you're saying that it should no longer be bound to that address and that it should wait for a new one. If you can give me the extact model of the old modem I can give you more specific directions as far as where to go to release the IP.
