very noisy laptop

ok, so I bought a used compaq presario 710 last week, and the only thing wrong with it, is that it makes NOISE.

it might not be the fan because when i blew some compessed air into it while the thing was being noisy, it made additional noise, like it was spinning.
and the only thing near it is the memory.
could the memory be making noise?
but it does sound like something is turning around reallyfast, and is really pooped out from doing so :D
any advice?
thanks

Memory wouldn't be making noise. It could be the hard drive making noise. If its unusually loud, then it could be bad. I could also be loud due to it being old.

Try and pinpoint it. See if it is the fan. If it does it as soon as you cut it on(there's probably a safer way to do this...) but jam the fan with something for a second just to see if it's still making the noise. harddrives can be very noisy, espcially when they are going out.

My laptop is next to silent when running UNTIL the fan kicks in...which is typically too often.

yup, it IS the fan, and it automatically kicks in when I plug it in to charge as well. is that normal?

so im guessing, replacing it would be the best way to go. but im kinda ifee about doing it myself.

Mine doesn't come on automaticall when it's charging, but I do know it's more likely as the machine gets hotter. But with yours, it might automatically lock at its highest speed and need the fan... WHo knows :P

I doubt there's anything you can do about the fan...it's probably just loud. Check for some reviews and see if others complain.

Did you ever ask the previous seller why he/she sold it?
That could've been why.

I dont know if replacing it will work. I'm not sure about it.. but my thoughts are that it is set to go on whenever you use it or whatever.. so no matter what type of fan, it'll still be forced to go on. You get my idea? I'm not sure if that is how it works.. but its how I see it.

Or, if there are super quite fans, then you can go for that.

Is it fan noise? Like positively you know its the fan blowing.. or is it some other type of noise..
