I hit the power button . then wait about 2 min. then i get to the login screen, and to log in it takes about 2-3 min. There was an outragious ammount of adware. what are some suggestions for speeding this lap top up?

Sounds to me like there still is an outrages amount of spyware on the system. You either need to clean up the pc better or take it to a trustes local repair shop.

Boot to safemode for faster boot and then pop run and type msconfig and press enter. Click startup tab and untick any entry that useless or just untick all. Restart pc and see whether the booting is faster or not. If faster, next thing you need to do is uninstall all unnecessary software, then repair and defrag your registry using vista manager or tuneup utilities
