VGA --> S-Video

I have a Sony Vaio (VGN-N325E) with a Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset. It has a VGA connector on the side, which I have used for dual monitors in the past without issue. Reading thru a spec sheet for the Intel driver, I read that it had TV-out capabilities.

I have two new TVs, one LCD and another DLP HDTV. However, neither of them have VGA connectors. So, I paid a few bucks for a VGA--> S-Video Converter. I tried plugging my Laptop into my TV, and the laptop recognized it as a monitor, but was unable to put any type of signal onto the screen.

I figure I might need a converter, but I wanted to give the 3 dollar solution a try before buying a $50 converter.

Anything I can do to make it work? or is it just an impossibility?

impossible is nothing.
Do you switch your tv to s-video input channel already?
ok...tell my what imput interface is on your lcd? only dvi?hdmi?

The whole point in having a TV-Out is so that you can plug a TV without needing a VGA to S-Video converter. When TV out is a spec on a graphics card, it usually means it , additionnaly to DVI/VGA outputs, has a S-Video or Composite Video or YPbPr Outputs to run your TV with. Check if you have a S-Video out or something.
