VGA Splitter/Monitor Leads Issue

Hi

I'm trying to get my PC to output to my monitor and LCD TV but running into some problems...

I bought a VGA splitter and 10m cable to hook it up to the tv but as soon as I plug it in to the splitter the tv works but the monitor goes black.

I tried changing the resolution but always the same result.

But if I switch the 10m cable over to the monitor & 2m cable to the tv they both work fine.

Problem is the 10m cable has to be for the tv, so does anyone know what is happening here and how I can fix it?

The 10m cable says 80c 30v and is about 7mm thick, my 2m monitor cable is also 80c 30v but only about 4mm thick with a rubber cylinder thing at each end near the connector (what are these?)

I'm thinking a new different spec 2m cable for the monitor should do the trick but don't know how I can make sure it will work?

I'm on windows XP & TV is a Samsung LE37R87, Monitor is HP L1906, & I don't want to buy an identical 10m cable for the monitor, 2m is ideal

Thanks
