VGA to HDMI using adapters

I'm trying to connect VGA pc to HDMI tv--here's my set up (can you tell me why it's not working?)?

I have VGA female on my PC. Plugged into that, I have a VGA male that has a DVI female on the other side. That's connected to a DVI male with HDMI on the other side, which I have plugged right into the HDMI input on my tv. We're getting no signal at all on the tv (and I have of course made sure I'm on the right input selection). Can anyone tell me why it's not working, and/or offer an alternative?

Are there drivers required to go from vga to dvi to hdmi? If so, what are they, and do you know where I can find them?

This will not work for two reasons:

1 - The VGA signal is an analog video signal only. HDMI is used for a digital video signal only. The DVI spec can carry BOTH analog and digital.

2 - The DVI to VGA adapter is used to adapt the analog pins of the DVI port to the proper pins of the VGA cable. In other words, it doesn't convert anything, it just uses the existing analog video signal in the DVI output connector.

What is happening in your setup is the analog signal from your VGA output on your PC is reaching a dead end in the DVI-VGA adapter. The DVI-HDMI cable is only connecting to the digital pins on the DVI side. The analog signal goes nowhere.

In order to do what you are attempting, you will need to convert the analog VGA output into a digital signal. This can be done with rather expensive converters. Your best bet is to look on the back of the TV for a VGA input. Many LCD and Plasma televisions have this, though it is becoming less common with newer models.

I hope this helps.
