If your source is a digital one (i.E. Digital8) you will be able to use a firewire cable. If your playback device and your computer both have those ports. Its about 12GB an hour for DV AVI's. If your source is analog (I.E. VHS), it will be about 40GB an hour for "lossless" compression AVI's.

I just advised someone to grab a second 250gb drive on sale to add to the current 80gb primary when the security system there was finished. You can see all over with remote cameras on the home pc. The kids there are less in years then you are and are "always" getting into things! :P

With one parent partially crippled and wanting proof if other kids cause problems the video captured can be edited and burned to disk. But that's also with someone unfamiliar with the different processes and is now needing help with setting things up. This why some questions needed to be asked here. The obvious difference of course is the type of camera being used which also means a different format besides?
