I was looking for a CPU upgrade for an old laptop, that's running a PIII (700MHz) on a Slot 1, 370 socket. When I was looking for processors that use 370 Socket, one that was mentioned was "C7" CPU from VIA Technologies. I've never heard of VIA, is this a good company?

This is the particular processor I was looking at, you can get them as fast as 2.0GHz. I was just wondering if the company and the product are any good.

VIA is more known as a chipset company. I have no experience with a C7 but if you want to try it make sure your system can use it, there is more to it then just a socket match the bios and chipset both need to support it.

They didn't have it on the website, I don't know how you can they tell if the stuff is compatible but I did a CPU-Z and it said the chipset was Intel i440X/ZX and the BIOS is Toshiba Version 2.50. Any other suggestions on how to tell?

here is some information to help you on your search.

which one Slot 1 or Socket 370 since it is a laptop i would think it would be socket 370.
