Video and sound playback out of sync

I'm using Media Player Classic. When I start playing avi files, everything's fine, but when I rewind or fast-forward, the video and sound start getting out of sync. This happens around 75% of the time. What could be the problem?:confused: This doesn't seem to happen when I play DVDs or SVCDs.

Also, do you know any other good freeware media players?:)
