Video Capture

Hi. I want to add a 'video capture card' to my PC, and am a little confused regarding what exactly I need! I want to copy my old VHS tapes to the PC, and some stored stuff on my Sky+ to PC. I have checked out eBay and am begining to wonder if I need to buy two different ones for my needs. Also, most seem to offer an RF input for TV, and I don't need that facility. Any help (or links!) would help. Many thanks...

Well you're gonna get it most of the time as almost all the good capture cards allow for TV capabilities.

If you're looking for a single card solution then the All-in-wonder cards by ATi are the route to go however Pinnacle and Hauppauge are also big players in the capture arena :)

Many thanks - do I need one or two (amalogue and digital) or will one do, with a 'composite' [yellow] input. Any model no's...

You can have two if you want although its somewhat pointless. Analog is easier to get started with while digital offers better quality usually :)

1. Get capture card, install, configure capture card.
2. Decide on software platform (WMM, Premier, Avid, Sonic etc)
3. Use the record feature from the software
4. Encode to MPG/M2V+MP2/M2V+WAV via CCE or TMPGEnc
5. Author via say DVDLab
6. Burn via Nero
