video capturing software

XP or Vista will be the key while the latest versions of some are backward from Vista to XP. AverMedia has some Vista ready capture devices depending on the type. Do you want pci, usb, or tv tuner/capture through video card with the few that have input as well as output options? With the tv tuner pci card I use the Cyberlink PowerDirector portion of the bundle that comes along with their Easydvd pci model for use on the Ultra TV PCI1500 MCE pci card. Cyberlink's newer PowerDVD 8.0 would be recommended for playback. http://www.aver.com/dvd/ezmaker.html

camtasia studio, havent used it but it is waht all my professors use to make pretty much any kind of demo or tutorial or anything on a computer

The easiest software itself for capturing video comes up with Cyberlink's PowerDirector and PowerProducer for dvd authoring as part of a bundle that came with a pci type capture card along with PowerDVD. The capture card itself never did work while a tv tuner card by the same manufacturere works like a charm on XP but not Vista. You need the new version for that. :(

The Software bundle there was for XP MCE 2005 and supposed to be Vista compatible? When selecting the software there make sure you choose one that is "Vista ready" not simply on some compatibility list.
