Video capturing software.

Hey guys. I'm using gamecam right now and it's fine but it doesn't record the audio from the game. I know people would suggest using FRAPS but I can't afford to pay the $40 right now. I want to know if there's a freeware that would also record the audio and has unlimited minutes of recording.

The Game Cam Lite won't record audio while the full version will. It's like having a shareware there. So far I have never run across a freeware or free version that will capture audio as well as video. I'm still looking here for a substitute for Game Cam and not FRAPS. It looks like we are both in the same boat at the present moment.

lol. i'm using Game Cam but it's the free version. It won't record the audio until i pay. So yeah, that sucks. I'm using a new freeware, it's called CamStudio. It lags my game really bad especially when I play TDU and CS:S. I guess it's because of my video card.

With Game Cam and probably the CamStudio used there you have to use the launch option seen in the right click menu for Game Cam anyways instead of being able to start the game with it's own link in the Programs menu if not from a desktop shortcut. That's where you use one to lauch another and end up seeing lags. For some reason Game Cam Lite also soundless for the free version won't record anything in certain games. Of course the original Soldier of Fortune released some 6yrs. ago is nothing like Fear 2005 and it's expansion pack there. Neither has screen shot capture ability.

i forgot to mention. while i was using gamecam, when i record videos in FarCry, they come out fine. but when i recorded videos in Test Drive:Unlimited they appeared dark even if the weather setting was in sunny. the thumbnail look normal but when you open the file the video is dark.

Game Cam simpy doesn't work in all games. In Fear it seemed to work great when I was inable to capture screens there using the PRTSCRN button. I could then save snapshots in bmp format later with PowerDVD and convert to jpg afterwards. In the first version of Soldier of Fortune? No go there! I was able to get two screens with Faststone Capture a freeware. Those were clear while only seeing a neam of light when facing the final opponent at the end there.

The sequel SOF II allows screens in png format that look bad when converted to jpg later. But I still ruled out using Game Cam there too. I ran FRAPS when 98 was on the old case here. But you had to put up with the frame counter in every screen capture. The Game Cam Lite shows the decal at the bottom right sometimes blocking something you want to show there. If the retail version also shows that then finding some other program is something we are both looking for.

That really helps a lot! Now you see why finding a good one is a task in itself. Something I'm looking at now is a freeware that can capture video from a tv tuner card and other sources called Open Video Capture 1.24.210 seen. But the site is not in too much English seen at http://www.download.ir/archives/2006/07/open_video_capt.php

That one also seems to be able to capture screens as well. But no information on what versions it will run on there. Another one for XP and may or may not run on Vista is the Growler Guncam 3.0.1.0 found at http://shareme.com/details/growler-guncam.html This is also supposed to be a shareware for $19.99 seen at the page there. Will either work?

i really don't want to pay for anything right now because i'm saving up for a GeForce 7900 GT. the damn camstudio is lagging the game a bit and the video i did is lagged. i set it already to 20fps. i also tried 30pfs and it still was bad.

Dee I wonder how some Half Life 2 videos would look there? :P That seemed to work out for you there. The audio heard on any clips seen there is never the best so don't worry too much as long as it's clean and no distortions. At least you were able to capture sound. Game Cam didn't have that in the Lite version tried out here. You had to buy the retail version.

I looked that one over good and found that it may capture while in a multiplaying environment online but is intended more for web cams and online chat room type application there. A program like Game Cam requires that you use it's own launcher to start a game running and then hit a hot key to start recording clips while in the game itself. The program will usually specify capturing while in games.

for me, GameCam is almost perfect. it doesn't lag, it has smart capture and has unlimited minutes of recording. if i were just willing to pay for the retail version, it'd be perfect so that'll record the audio too from the game. LOL!

By the way, i didn't uninstall Camstudio. It's better if I use it for presentations. I'm entering Freshman year in College in a month. Lol!

i just found out. if you register your GameCam Lite it'll be able to record the audio from the game too. It's only $10 while if you register GameCam it'll cost $25. here's the link. http://www.planetgamecam.com/?locid=compare

weird thing is if you register either versions, you won't have unlimited minutes of recording as there isn't an "X" under "Maximum Video Length".

I hate being limited to some 15-30 seconds while that when running here could grab a good 1/2hr.! You still pay a fee for audio. The comparison shows how it's still retail orientated to get all of the features. The Lite version is more or less a shareware deal with limits there. A totally free software loaded with everything would be rare for this.

Hey PC eye! I think I found a solution for our videos to have audio. I use the Smart PC Recorder freeware. It's a bit tricky running GameCam and Smart PC Recorder because you'll have to minimize your game (Alt+Tab) then run the recorder because it doesn't have Shortcut keys, then resuming your game and then Running GameCam. The outcome is excellent, all you need is to cut out the useless part of the audio when you're in the editing the video.

Here's a video I did using GameCam and Smart PC Recorder:

Hope this helps you! :)

Gee I can get some nice background sound from games. :D

The problem here is that Game Cam will only run on XP Home and certain games not XP Pro for some reason. I'm still trying to go after one that captures both video and audio in one program rather then trying time both later when editing. It seems that worked out for you there which seems to help quite a bit. Here I will need something that keeps the audio insync with the video for possible vcd projects. I'll give this one a try in Fear however since Game Cam was running there.

i'm telling you man, try Cam Studio. i think mine lags because i don't have a really powerful computer. it records both audio and video and it has unlimited minutes of recording.
