Video Card Comparison.

Hey guys, Im planning on buying a video card within the next month or so. I want a good video card that can handle almost any of the current games at good settings. Also, I realize that cards get outdated within a month or two after it comes out, but i want a card that will last me about 4 years. I cannot afford the 8800's. Am i right thinking that the x1950xtx is the best choice for me? Should i wait a bit longer for a 8800 (i hear there are still some bugs that need to be worked out)? Is the 1950GT a good choice, since its a bit cheaper? I havent decided on the motherboard, but the processor will most likely be a E6300, E6400, or E6600 (depending on money). Any other cards I haven't looked at? Any ideas are welcomed. Thanks in advance
 
So, it seems like the x1950xtx is the way to go if you aren't getting one of the new 8800's. That video card even beats the 8800 in some aspects, and is like 200 dollars cheaper. Is getting a 8800 really worth the 600+ dollars? most games done even make use of dx10, not to mention when games will REQUIRE dx10 come out (probably 3-4 years from now) the 8800 will be long outdated, and much better cards will be available. Am I correct in this?
 
if you get anything but the 8800's you won't be able to play any directX 10 games on higher settings.
the 8800gtx is twice as powerful as any other single gpu on the market.

so does this mean that if you get say the Core 2 Extreme, 4GB of RAM and the 8800GTX, you will never have either minimum slow down in any of the current games????? :rolleyes: Thatl be tight!!

Why not get the 8800GTS?

first off, if you have and AMD cpu, go with ati. if you have intel, go with nvidia. get at least an x1950 or above in the ati line, or at least a 7900 GTX, or any of the 7950 cards, or above. but, first, check out that link

I think it's a little scary that you "sound" like you're rattling off facts to someone who is asking for opinions. I happen to disagree with you but everyone is entitled to thier opinion. No hard feelings. :D

1) You CAN use AMD with Nvidia cards. I have a system doing it now. There is no reason if you run AMD to run ATI. I also run an Intel with ATI. hmm.

2) If he can't afford an 8800 then can he get a X1950 or 7900GTX mmm doubtful but maybe. So without more info I don't get the "at least" comment.

So anyways apatel9 what is your budget and what resolution are you planning on running games at? Also nice choice on the CPU.
 
1)Nvidia and AMD can work together just as fine as ATI and AMD...theres no difference.

2)Agreed with above,the 8800 is outta his price range,so therefore out of the question,so next bet?the x1950's and the 7900's

3)No card will last you 4 years and still perform on par with much of anything.
