Video card confusion

okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
my computer came with no video card so i have to plug into the motherboard and I am wondering if i buy a video card and put in one of the slots that are open, will it allow me to have dual screens?

Basically I will have 1 VGA on the motherboard and 1 VGA on the video card and I am wondering if I plug a monitor into both the motherboard and the video card that one will make the other obsolete?

What's the motherboard, do you know if it supports PCI, AGP, or PCI-Express? With any of these cards, you may simply disable the onboard video and just use the new video card as most any card today supports multiple video outputs.

However, if for some reason you don't want to get rid of the onboard video, it's certainlly possible to run a pair of video cards. You just have to be sure the onboard and additional card do not conflict. In other words, if your motherboard has an AGP slot, the onboard video is also AGP. If you install an AGP card, the onboard video will be disabled. However, it will continue to work if you install a PCI card. But please realize you'd be much better off to stay away from PCI(NOT PCI Express) if you have any other alternatives.

Confused yet? ;)
