video card issue

hi there,
i built my first computer and it has been great in all ways except one. sometimes when the computer is on for 4+ hours the screen gets all distorted and a box pops up saying my video card stoped working, in which the resolution get so large that i cant do anything. im not even doing anything video intensive, such as powerpoint or playing online poker. what are the possible causes/ solutions?

Would be helpful if you posted the exact error message. Also mention your hardware and OS.

**SUGGESTION**: card is overheating from working, even though it isnt working hard. the time is getting to it. buy a computer fan that can blow on the card to keep it cool.

Sounds like the card is overheating, try to find out the temperature of it.
