Video card overheating? Causing computer to freeze

My computer has been freezing randomly for like a year and one of my fans died about a year ago. I noticed that my vid card gets really really hot. And it tends to freeze while I am watching you tube, or streaming media, or playing a game etc.

Is this because of my video card? I bought a new fan but the problem still persists.

Hey,

yeah the same thing use to happen with my computer when I had a low end graphics card. I bought a cheaper one ( 8400GT) and everything went fine. So yeah, I suggest you get a new graphics card, it will help a lot. =D

what os? vista?

1gig ram in vista is horrible. 1gig in xp is poor also these days.

i dont think its your graphic card. i think its your low amount of ram.. especially in vista.

Have you actually checked the temps on the card? or are you simply going by touch/ thinking process? That fan could have been crucial to pulling out the heat from the case, and one gig of ram is not enough for Vista. You could have multiple culprits.

I have xp professional.
I am basing this solely on touch and the fact that the computer freezes while watching videos and playing games.
As I said I did replace the fan with another one. And the ram I am pretty sure should be fine. I never had a problem until the fan died and the video card would get mega hot. Maybe I need another fan?

The video card worked fine in my other computer though. So I guess I could look into more ram.

No it's not a ram problem. Low ram will cause the computer to run slowly, but not freeze entirely. Go download speed fan or something and post your CPU and GPU temperatures.

alright, I cannot do that this second as my hard drive is being cleaned. Caught a nasty virus so hopefully next thursday ill have my pc running again.
