Video Card Problem

Hi guys,

EDIT:
I opened up my computer and powered it up. The fan on the 8600gt is spinning at full speed. This means to me that it is getting power from the motherboard (Doesn't take extra power), and the graphics card seems to be working for power. Does this tell me its a software problem? Or is it a good chance it is still broken

Well I solved the other problem with my computer and it now boots up perfectly. The only problem now is my Video Card. It is a 512mb 8600gt, and I was wondering if I could get some help. When I boot it up on my ASUS motherboard in xp, it will not show any type of signal, the monitor just stays black. I bought the vid card nib, which is weird to me. Will I have to install the drivers for the video card before I plug it in? The onboard works great. I do not have any other PCI-E video cards around so I do not know if its my motherboard or my videocard. I disabled the onboard video card in WINDOWS, but not in bios.

Someone else will have to explain how, i can't remember. But i think the problem is that you need to disable the onboard video, shutdown and then install the new card.

Yeah, static can kill stuff big time. I'm pretty sure thats how my onboard sound got messed up, and now my mic channel and a couple surround channels don't work at all, amongst other problems.

Yall didn't have the standoffs correct? Thus something must've shorting... either the slot itself, or the card...

That could have easily happened if contacts were touching the mobo tray or, like you said, it might be DOA.
