Video card question- after reading sticky

i am looking to buy an average-good graphics card. ive read the sticky to learn some stuff about graphics cards since i dont know much about graphics card but there were still some stuff that i couldnt quite understand. i hope some of you guys get elaborate on it a bit furthur.

1. the sticky talks of clockspeed but it doesnt really elaborate on what it does or what is a good clockspeed.

2. under bandwidth category the sticky talks of something called memory clockspeed which i am assuming is how fast the card is able to transmit signals and such [am i wrong?] then it begins to talk about how we shouldnt get ripped off by higher numbers and such but i couldnt understand a thing in this part.

thats about it. hope someone will have the patience to teach me this stuff :D
 
It's hard to say what a "good" clock speed really is. I mean the 7600's can run around 580MHz, while the faster 7900 only runs at 450. You really shouldn't even bother looking into the clock, but rather just how the card performs in benchmarks.

Memory bandwidth is simply how fast data can be written and read from the RAM.

Again...just look into benchmarks. There's MUCH more than just MHz when comparing video cards.

ic. well i ve been searching around and found some graphic cards. i am thinking of buying this. what do you think of it

Here's a better card for less... Now neither card is great. I had a 6200 once and it could only play games on their lowest settings(not too well I may add...) AGP cards have become rather expensive seeing as everything has gone to PCI-Express.

not trtying to argue but i am just curious why that card is better then the other. just curious

EDIT: and what were the games you were trying to play with this card? was it a top of the line game like FEAR or half life 2?

The 5500 is a pretty old card. If you are looking for a budget card I would rather get a current generation budget card like the 7300GT or something because they support the latest bells and whistles although it will not run very smoothly.
 
The 6200 was NEVER top of the line(hence the 6200 and the later 6800s :P) I never tried FEAR on mine. About the only games I played were NFS Most Wanted and Race Driver 3.
