Video Card Question?

I recently bought a 22" LCD monitor. I was wondering what is a good video card to get?


The reason I ask is because I am going to be watching NBA games on my computer. I was planning on getting the nba league pass for my tv but I switched cable companies and verizon doesn't have the nba league pass yet and they are not sure when they are getting it. So I decided, I got a nice size monitor, I would just get the NBA Broadband Pass which allows you to watch the games on your computer. They had a free trial last week and I watched the games but it wasn't the same as watching it on a nice clear tv so I was wondering if I updated my Video Card if that would help clear up the nba games that I watch on my computer.

A good number of mid range to high end models will support high resolutions where Windows may need a driver for the lcd itself. But for viewing an external signal the screen resolutions are a different story there. Those are not the same as you typically see for a desktop.

There are some tuner card applications that allow full screen viewing that will fill the entire screen on both standard and wide screen lcds while others will leave a border on a wide screen model.
 
I can view the games full screen thats not what I am concerned about. I am just wondering if I buy a new video card that it will upgrade the picture quality. The picture quality I am viewing now is pretty basic I was wondering if I buy a different graphics card, will that upgrade the picture quality?

Did you adjust your resolution on the monitor?
 
yes I changed the resolution and the games are clear but I was wondering if I get a different video card then it will make the picture even clear bc there is room from improvment in the picture quality
 
Honestly, you won't notice the difference in video quality on a standard LCD monitor between a low end or even integrated video chipset, versus a high end card.
 
Even from a live input to a tuner or capture card you can run any card even an AGP on an old tub for a system and the picture will be the same. The real difference would be going from an analog to digital video source as far as lcds are concerned as long as the monitor itself is HD quality.

Here I ran a PCI type capture some years back when the largest lcds were 15" having just replaced a 15" crt. The clear definition and brightness intensity were noticed there as well as the cleaner display on just about everything. The newer models since are far superior to start with while vpu power effects gaming, animation, and graphics while the NTSC or PAL standards remains the same(until 2/19/2009 anyways).

On one older build here where 3 different video cards were tried out two NVidia and one ATI(ATI being known as superior in image quality) the viewing of incoming video was still the same. The format and source are the factor more then anything since maxing a video out to full screen does tend to see some degradation as a rule. The better the signal strength the better the picture quality seems to be the golden rule there.
