Video Card Question...

I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard that has the following:

1 x AGP Pro/8X (1.5V only)
5 x PCI

I've been told that I should use the AGP but as I shop for video cards almost all of them are PCI. Do you agree with the advice I was given? Also, it seems like the voltage is missing from the specs on every card I've looked at...how imprtant is it and how do I find out what it is?

*** I would like the card to be under $75.00
*** I need a DVI-D but I like the idea of having S-Video/HD and all that good stuff

They are probably PCI-e cards, and I think the best card you can get that is AGP is an HD 3850 (sorry I don't have a link). But you want one for under $75, so Perhaps and Hd 2600 XT?

if your still using AGP you need new MB lol now its PCI and PCI-E no AGP
Not everybody has the option of buying and installing a new motherboard, try giving the person advice and addressing the issue and not just throwing up wise cracks. If you can't help and give a solution to the problem do not respond. AGP and PCI cards are still used extensively for your information. If you can not take a minute and help...please delete your account. Thanks;)

As far as a video card upgrade for your motherboard...you options are going to be limited. You can get a nice ATI based 3650 card that is AGP interface. You can get 3850 cards but they will exceed your budget. A great place to start is the Asus forum. They have dedicated places for every motherboard. You can read about what other people are using and what has not worked for them. A guy by the screen name of Jos Scholtes is the resident expert about your motherboard model. Below is a link for an AGP card I found just surfing through Newegg. As far as I know it should work fine but you will need to get the Asus experts to answer that question for you.

IF your going to buy a motherboard get one with PCI-E. Theres a dude on here selling a 9600gt for $65. That would be a good card for the price.

Video Card Question Continued....

Ok, thanks for the info everybody. I guess I was curious if I would be better off using 1 of the 5 PCI slots instead of the AGP. Even though I managed to build my own computer about 5 years ago I'm not sure what the PCI's are for if you can't put a video card there. It does seem like they had AGP in mind when they built the motherboard though. I would still appreciate any additional information on the difference between the two....

PCI < AGP < PCIe

For you, AGP is the best bet if you can't upgrade your motherboard. Make sure you're not getting PCI and PCI express mixed up. I HIGHLY doubt "almost all of them are PCI" in this day and age -- they're PCIe, unless you're going to some second-hand computer parts store.

Yo man,

your gonna want to use the agp slot for your graphics. The good thing about agp cards is they will be cheap!

the pci slots can be used for a variety of things like, a sound card, a wireless adapter, or a tv tuner..for example. You can get a pci graphics card but, I wouldn't bother now.

If you decide to upgrade to a new motherboard, you would be getting a board with pci-e slot or slots for your graphics and would not have agp any longer.

Hope that helps a bit!

The problem with buying an AGP card now is that they cost a lot to keep in stock because they're obsolete, and therefore few people are buying them. So, price/performance they aren't the best choice. I would recommend saving for a new motherboard and graphics card, which would do good in the long run.

However, if you're still set on the AGP card, this 3650 isn't bad
