Video card question

Hi

I have a few year old dell dimension 2100. It had terrible intigrated graphics, so I bought an ATI readon 7000 (I had to get PCI because this computer doesnt have an AGP slot) I installed the driver, then put in the video card. When I boot up my computer, it starts to load windows xp, then the screen turns black with two random tiny white lines at the top. Ive tried moving the video card to different PCI slots with no success, and I dont know what else to do, Im not much of a computer person. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should try??

When you boot up the pc with the GFX card plugged in push F8 when the POST "happens". There you can choose how to start Windows, select Safemode. When windows has started install the drivers (probably on a cd you got). I think the problem was that you hadn't installed any drivers for the GFX card so it couldn't start up but I think XP should have some kind of drivers for Radeon 7000.... Hope this helps.

I did what you said, and I was pleased to see it was working in safe mode. But when I try to install the driver, it says: Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup.

Any clue what this means?

I had that problem too, the reason that its doing that is because you installed it in the rong order. A way to fix that is to plugg it back into the integrated, and uninstall all of the drivers then reinstall them in correct order.

and whats the correct order? are u saying I uninstall my intigrated card's drivers, then install my new cards drivers, then plug in the new card? Or do I put the card in and then install the drivers??

No, im saying when you installed the ati you installed it in the wrong order. You need to uninstall the drivers to the new card and reinstall them and if that doesnt work i realy have nothing else to say, it worked for me, i had the same card too.
